The new Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Will Pascall, has struck a positive blow for the environment by switching to an electric London cab for the official mayoral car.

Meanwhile, the Council is aiming to procure green ‘zero tail pipe emissions’ vehicles or ‘ultra-low emissions’ vehicles for their whole fleet of cars, from the Mayor’s official car across to the street cleaning rigs.

The aim is for the green vehicle transition to be completed by the end of 2022 – ahead of London’s wider plans to create a zero-emission zone in inner London by 2040.

Commenting on his green approach, Councillor Pascall said: “Mayors need to reflect the places they represent and electric cars are hugely important to our borough.

“I’ve seen a big increase in the use of electric cars during my time serving the Council, so I’m pleased this efficient new car is part of the council’s bigger plan for an entirely green fleet.

“I’m also pleased the new mayoral car is such a London icon – though I’m told I’m strictly forbidden from picking up fares!”
